EHS Manager

Position Description

  • The EHS Manager, reporting to the Plant Manager, will be an integral part of the management team accountable for accomplishment of business objectives consistent with [Company] values. The EHS Manager's primary responsibilities are to facilitate implementation of EHS systems including Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, and Medical programs.
  • Incumbent's challenges include: Coaching the line organization regarding Alcoa standards and procedures in order to achieve a zero incident workplace. Coordinate the EHS BU plan implementation. Lead location strategic and tactical teams. Ensure compliance with all EHS regulatory requirements and [Company] standards. Assess risk associated with manufacturing processes and act to minimize risks. Incumbent will provide specialized EHS expertise and assist in developing location knowledge of EHS regulations and corporate standards. The incumbent will define, obtain, and coordinate necessary EHS reports, permits, communications and EHS self-assessments for the location. In coordination with AFS corporate EHS staff, Incumbent will maintain a robust EHS management system.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Implement the AFS EHS Policies, Procedures and Programs.
  • Ensure EHS incident management system data is maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the [Company] Self Assessment Tool for all EHS protocols on an annual basis.
  • Responsible for the development and tracking of action plans to close gaps found during self assessments.
  • Coordinate the activities of the location’s Strategic and Tactical EHS Teams. This includes scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, and tracking action items for the team.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate filing of necessary records to demonstrate compliance with applicable federal, state, and [Company] programs.
  • Develop and implement standard safe work instructions appropriate to the location’s various EHS programs.
  • Maintain chemical inventory/MSDS's for all materials used at the location.
  • Coordinate the selection and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory reporting is completed accurately and timely.
  • Coordinate necessary EHS reports, permits, communications and self assessments.
  • Coordinate major projects with contractors to include orientation.
  • Develop, conduct and coordinate training of associates in the area of EHS.
  • Coordinate the activities of EHS SPA’s.
  • Responsible for reviewing compliance status of applicable EHS requirements from federal, state and Alcoa EHS regulations for facilities and developing plans.
  • Maintain Emergency Evacuation program and Fire drills current.
  • Assist in the investigation of all incidents and management of location injuries, illnesses and return to work programs.
  • Identify and maintain occupational medical services.
  • Develop location EHS annual plan in support of BU EHS Plan.
  • Provide case management of all injuries and illnesses.
  • Provide weekly reports regarding plan completion and location highlights.
  • Oversee management of all waste generation and disposal in accordance with Alcoa/AFS policies.
  • Incumbent must comply with all Company policies and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Perform related assignments as assigned.

Basic Qualifications    

  • Must have at least 5 years experience in H&S or EHS.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 implementation.
  • Knowledgeable in Regulatory Compliance, Incident Investigation, & Safety Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications          

  • Prior [Company] Experience and Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • College degree in Engineering or science related field. Degree in Environmental, Health or Safety preferred.
