Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Intern

Position Description

• The EHS Intern will provide high-quality environmental, health and safety analysis and support on a range of other industrial hygiene issues. This will include conducting sampling, reviewing safety programs and defining necessary reports for the location. Individual will have project-based tasks that allow them to apply their academic knowledge in EHS into practical real-world use. Individual will also gain strong leadership and decision-making skills through the increasing responsibilities incurred.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct industrial hygiene sampling including air, noise and heat stress on a daily basis
• Work with the Industrial Hygiene Sampling Laboratory to get quantitative results from the sampling and conduct written reports to ensure employees understand their potential exposures to the chemical hazards
• Maintain the Industrial Hygiene database (HYGenius); Conduct written reports and communicate the reports to departments
• Complete and review failure mode and effect analyses on critical EHS equipment
• Revise and review safety and health programs to identify gaps and implement control methods
• Coach and mentor department supervisors and floor workers on the importance of a proactive safety culture      
• Reassess workplace exposure when a significant change takes place in the process, equipment, materials, tasks and work practices etc.   
• Assist in defining, obtaining and coordinating necessary EHS reports, permits, communications and EHS Self-Assessments for the location 
• Identify potential compliance issues, program control problems and environmental impacts and develop solutions to these issues
• Perform routine inventories and inspections to ensure company compliance with federal and state laws, including reporting requirements
• Lead or support other EHS initiatives as determined

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or other similar areas

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's with majors in Environmental Health and Safety, Science, Engineering or other related field.
