Occupational Health Nurse

  • Appointments are dependent on the completion of a successful medical examination and receipt of a valid medical certificate.
  • Diploma Occupational Health ( Essential/Minimum )
  • Bachelors’ Degree Nursing (Recommended)
  • 2-5 (in total) years in Nursing / Occupational Health (Essential/Minimum)(Operational)
  • SANC ( Essential / Minimum )
  • Provide periodical, annual, pre-employment & exit medicals, monitor the storage and availability of medical records, for identification of health issues and the provision of appropriate courses of treatment.
  • Follow Occ Health programmes and procedures and provide support to the Occ Medical or Health Practitioner at the Medical Station/Clinic, to ensure compliance to all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in implementing Medical and Hygiene procedures and Codes of Practice.
  • Responsible for daily operations of the Medical Station, (monitoring resource allocations, delegating tasks and supervising the provision of health services).
  • In collaboration with the Occupational Hygienist, monitor employee exposure to hazardous substances and undertaking statutory and non-statutory health surveillance.
Where required: 
  • Report for standby duty and perform all required emergency medical services and administer medication where appropriate, to maintain the good health of employees.

COMPLIANCE , GOVERNANCE AND ASSURANCE:

  • Provide inputs in the establishment of an effective methodology of SHEC business operations, communications and control whereby statutory compliance and appropriate mitigation of risk is achieved.
  • Adhere to all relevant SHEC legislation and comply with company specific policies and procedures.
  • Manage risk by assessing liabilities, reporting and monitoring standards, as well as attending to health problems in line with Company standards.
  • Ensure that all governance systems and methodologies required to manage health risks are efficient and managed at all levels.
  • Participate in assessments and audit aimed at ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements.
  • Ensure alignment between legal documents, Acts and statutory guidelines.

  • Ensure quality control of service delivery.

BEST PRACTICE AND CI:

  • Maintain extensive internal and external professional networks.
  • Assess and evaluate alignment of occupational health services with best practice principles to enable improvements where applicable.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a personal learning and growth plan to ensure continued development.

CUSTOMER AND CLIENT RELATIONSHIP:

  • Provide support to clients in the development of occupational health services and processes for administrative, systems and record keeping purposes.
  • Assess and evaluate discipline-specific standards, principles and practice to enable planning and implementing health outcomes supportive of business objectives.
  • Monitor resource allocation, delegate tasks and supervise the provision of health services.

EFFECTIVE STAFF SUPERVISION:

  • Manage direct reports KPA's by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve dept objectives.
  • Proactively anticipate future occupational health service requirements in consultation with Occupational Medical Practitioner.
  • Draft and implement strategies to optimise staffing and services to assure a competent knowledge base for continued success of Company.
  • Act as change agent to foster an environment where people are motivated and performance driven.
  • Articulate, adopt, embrace and lives Company's values.
  • Motivate and inspire staff to excel at their jobs and strive for excellence.
  • Ensure staff resources are efficiently deployed and staff members undertake appropriate training and development so they are skilled to efficiently perform allocated duties.
  • Support, coach and mentor direct reports in skills/knowledge development to ensure they have the necessary capabilities.
