Senior Mining Engineer

Requirements:
Required Experience:

  • 5 to 10 years of mining engineering/mine planning experience, graduate research experience considered equivalent.

Required Education:

  • B.Sc, preferred MSc, Ph.D. or PE in Mining Engineering.

Requirements:
Mine Planning

  • Conducting of research to determine locations and methods of extracting minerals
  • Estimation of location, size, accessibility and estimated value of the mineral deposit
  • Determination of methods of mineral extraction considering factors such as safety, operational costs, deposit characteristics, geological characteristics
  • Planning, recommendation and coordination of mining activities, type and capacity of haulage equipment and manpower utilization
  • Layout and direction of mine construction, position of excavation benches, access roads
  • Design and monitoring of implementation of other mining related projects

Data Analysis

  • Analysis of labor requirements, equipment needs and operational cost to prepare annual budget reports
  • Collection of surveying data, such as flyover updates, professional land surveys and in house survey to track material movement at multiple locations
  • Tracks and analyses mine performance using the mobile equipment, surveying, material movement and labor data

Departmental and Mining Team Role

  • Actively participates in departmental meetings, peer reviews the work, projects etc., recommends solutions to peers
  • Actively researches best solutions to make the department a more efficient service tool to the operations
  • Provide current action items / project list to the director of Mining and Exploration department
  • Leads the mining team, consisting of geologist, mine manager and mine engineer in a mine planning role
  • Works with geologist, mine manager and mine engineer on successful implementation of the short, mid and long range
  • Tracks performance of intermediate and long term plans in relation to short term mine plan
  • Coordinates level one and level two meetings with mid and high level management on mining performance
  • Assistance in special projects and capital purchase request

Leads mine engineers in the mine planning and related activities to ensure high level of service

  • SurvCADD and AutoCAD training mining engineers
  • Setting up standards for reporting and mine planning
  • Assistance in STMP, surveying and short term design issues

Site visit and audits

  • Travel to mine site to conduct audits to ensure sustainability of the mining operation on as needed basis
  • Ensure that short term material movement does not jeopardize the long term view of the deposit utilization
