Manager, Underground Mining System Engineering

Role Summary/Purpose:

  • The Senior Engineering Section Manager demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide key technical leadership and systems management for the effective development and deployment of best in class underground mining electric drive systems with clear competitive differentiation
  • Optimize GE product offerings / technologies vs. competition’s and deliver true customer value that drives market position

Lead overall systems life cycle design and product management including:

  • Technical Customer Interface
  • Technical Project Plan
  • Schedule, ESR, etc.
  • Technical Proposal
  • Technical Competitive Analysis
  • System Design
  • Product Description
  • System Functional Spec
  • Schematic
  • Interface Control Documentation
  • Core System Design
  • System Concepts / Core Proposal Development
  • Performance Modeling
  • System to Subsystem Interaction / Optimization Modeling (Control, Cooling, etc.)
  • System Tradeoffs / Optimization
  • System Standardization
  • Subsystem Requirements SDS Generation for COE Requirements Flow Down
  • Product Structure List (Kit List, etc.)
  • System Validation
  • Customer / Regulatory Homologation (MSHA, etc.)
  • Quality Confirmation Validation
  • Reliability / Life Cycle Cost Management
  • Technical Tollgate Management
  • Cross Functional Technical Project Management
  • Provide leadership working with the product management and service teams to enable strategic partner selection, provide customer and sales support
  • Drive a culture of excellence in technology development, compliance and integrity
  • Develop a strong bench of technical leaders that can move either horizontally and vertically within the Engineering organization

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical systems or electrical systems design including performance, optimization, and integration experience in one of the following areas: locomotive, engine, traction, OHV
  • At least 5 years of experience in people leadership
