Are you our next Senior Water Engineer?
- We are currently seeking a Senior Water Engineer for our FishHawk, FL location. Senior level responsibilities for developing and implementing water use and permitting strategies and, preparing water permit applications in coordination with Plant Operations, Engineering, the Law Department, and consulting engineers. The position is part of the US Environmental Affairs team. The position will, as appropriate,, participate with US Environmental Affairs and other internal teams in identifying and evaluating current and future regulatory and permitting requirements, and interpreting current and proposed legal and regulatory language to determine applicability and impact to the business. Also participates in commenting on proposed regulations and negotiating regulatory and permit requirements with regulatory agencies.
What will you do?
Support Water permitting activities for all US facilities (mines, concentrates plants, etc.)
- Includes NPDES permitted outfalls, storm water permits, etc.
- General training required by new or modified permits or regulations
- Participates in the development of water use and permitting strategies
Support current and future regulatory development and interpretation
- Identifies and evaluates regulatory current and future permitting requirements
- Interprets current and proposed legal and regulatory language to determine applicability and impact to the business
- Participates in commenting on proposed regulations and negotiates regulatory language and permit requirements with regulatory agencies
Support Water regulatory compliance activities
- Water related agency information requests
- Other issues on a case-by-case basis
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required. Major in Engineering or Science preferred.
- Professional Engineer license a plus.
- Bachelors degree plus a minimum of 7 years direct experience in process engineering and environmental permitting.
- Thorough knowledge of environmental permitting requirements, especially Clean Water Act. Ability to work independently.
- Ability to evaluate engineering and process aspects of facility improvement projects, technical/ legal information and effectively communicate complex issues verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively negotiate with regulatory agencies.
- Ability to manage consulting engineers and scientists.
- Ability to interpret current and proposed permitting requirements and evaluate their impact on operations.
- Familiarity and experience with other environmental media, including RCRA and possibly CAA, a definite plus.
- Familiarity and experience with other Florida and/or Louisiana environmental regulations a definite plus.
- Proficient skills in word processing, spreadsheets, Operations database applications, presentations, drafting programs
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
