Located in Perth, our client is an Australian based mining company with a focus on copper production and exploration. They hold mining and copper exploration activities in both the Pilbara region WA, as well as the Mount Isa Block in QLD. Due to current expansions and restructuring, our client is currently seeking an experienced Underground Safety Officer.


Successful candidates will be reporting to the OHS&T Manager and you will be responsible for driving OH&S improvements, and to be involved in influencing site personnel OH&S awareness and culture. The role is also to provide advice and support on matters related to Occupational Health, Safety and medical support to management, employees, contractors and visitors.


This role is a permanent Fly in Fly Out role on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster to the West Australian operation.


The role will encompass the following duties;

• Providing OHS advice and support to all personnel on site,
• Underground workplace inspections, risk assessments, audits and generate communications to relevant personnel in order to maintain a safe working environment,
• Attendance and participation in Underground shift change, Toolbox/Safety Meetings and when appropriate the daily production planning of meetings,
• Assisting with site management incident investigations in accordance with site policies and requirements,
• Collation and preparation of OH&S statistical data
• Maintenance of all Underground OH&S required Registers, referenced in the Safety Management System.
• Successful candidates must possess the following qualification and attributes;

At least 5 years plus experience in a similar role with proven results in influencing a positive safety culture within the workplace and have the ability to build strong relationships with all levels of an organisation,

• Underground Mining experience essential
• Certificate IV in OH&S / Workplace Training & Assessments and have the capability to effectively interpret the applicable legislation,
• Ability to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act WA 1994 and Regulations 1995, AS/NZ and ISO Standards.
• WA Dangerous Goods Safety (Explosives) Regulations,
• Good professional communication skills, both written and oral and an ability to work in a remote area with a minimum of supervision.
