Our client, a global mining and minerals development company with extensive mining, milling and continuing exploration operations in the Sudbury basin, has an immediate opening for a Geological Technician or Technologist. This is a long term contract position with strong potential for contract extensions or transition to client staff.

Description:

College Graduates from Mineral Sciences / Geology with 6 months – 5 years related exploratory technical support experience required to undertake geological or geotechnical logging of diamond drill core and diamond drill support - core pickup - sampling - surveying.

Accountabilities:

• Reporting to the Senior Geologist, your responsibilities will include the collection and/or processing of exploration data or samples following established procedures that may involve operation of technical instrumentation and computer data entry or processing. Processed data is reviewed for accuracy, recorded and analyzed as warranted and the results reported.
• Direct and assist in the operation, scheduling and maintenance of required exploration equipment, machinery and supplies.
• Direct and assist in various related aspects of exploration duties (camp construction, claim staking, routine office duties).
• HS&E Accountabilities: Assess safety of equipment and procedures of daily assigned projects and to report immediately any deemed not to be safe. Follow company safety policies, procedures and best practices and remain compliant to government safety regulations at all times. Respect the safety and state of the natural environment as well as co-workers and related parties.
• Day to day direction of the work of a small number of employees or contractors may be required in addition to completing a variety of administrative / technical duties.
• Geological / geotechnical logging and mapping in assigned areas

Terms of compensation are competitive, negotiable and commensurate with experience.
