PROFILE DESCRIPTION

Required abilities:

  • Mining degree/diploma
  • At least five years mining experience at metalliferous mines
  • Mine managers certificate
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Computer literate

WORK OUTPUT DESCRIPTION

Work Description:

  • The SECTION MANAGER has the Legal accountability with a 2.14.1, 2.14.2 and 2.14.3 or a 2.6.1 appointment in terms of the Minerals Act and Regulations and is required to assist the manager in the control, management and direction of the underground workings of the mine, as stipulated by the regulations.
  • The main responsibility of this role is to ensure that the operational process in a defined area of the mine operates effectively through the;
  • Control of the working environment and promotion of ‘Zero Tolerance’ principles.
  • Proper allocation, development and utilisation of human resources.
  • Utilisation of new technology, financial, logistical and material assets.
  • Management of the process of ore body exposure and stripping and the
  • Administration of these functions
  • Accountable for the well being of the workforce and the sustained profitability of the operation, with a time frame of 1-3 years
Technical work responsibilities:
  • “Zero Tolerance” principles are implemented, measured and responded to throughout the entire area of responsibility.
  • Legal and Management specifics are adhered to.
  • All statistical and progressive production figures required by working procedures and site-specific systems are completed and available.
  • Required reef horizons are identified and the necessary development to expose them planned and scheduled with the development team.
  • Production forecasts are quantified and planning to achieve targets completed with the stoping team.
  • Interaction of relevant departments and the mining team is co-ordinated, monitored and optimised.
  • Production targets for reef exposure and stripping are met within defined parameters of quantity and quality.
  • Operating costs throughout the process are kept within budget limitations.
  • The performance of the workforce is monitored and improved through the development of skills and behaviour.
  • New technology for the improvement of methods is actively sought, tested and implemented.
  • Relationships with all stakeholders, on and off site, are actively supported.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work output Title:

Key Task:

  • Implement and support “Zero Tolerance” principles.

Tasks:

  • Provide exposure to training in “Zero Tolerance” principles.
  • Respond to deviation from required behaviour with guidance or discipline.
  • Re-enforce positive behaviour.
  • Monitor, analyse and respond to accident/incident reports and safety audits.

Key Task:

  • Maintain section compliance to standard procedures and specifications.

Tasks:

  • Carry out regular site inspections.
  • Identify and highlight poor housekeeping.
  • Identify and respond to sub-standard work specifications and practices.
  • Provide guidance and details on required specifications and work practice to team.
  • Discipline and/or provide formal training where required.

Key Task:

  • Maintain section compliance to legal requirements.

Tasks:

  • Carry out regular site inspections.
  • Inspect and sign off legal records of site inspections, reports and written instructions.
  • Check compliance to necessary administration of certificates and permissions required for specialised tasks.
  • Report as required to Senior Management

Work output Title:
  • A quality product at required quantities.
Key Task:
  • Plan and schedule development and stoping process.
Tasks:
  • Attends, contributes to and is informed by production meetings for the area.
  • Consults with and receives from Production Manager, forecasted needs for area of responsibility.
  • Quantifies development targets and plans the process for the achievement thereof with the development team.
  • Quantifies stoping targets and plans the process for the achievement thereof with the stoping team.

Key Task:

  • Plans and co-ordinates equipping process.

Tasks:

  • Assess and quantifies equipping needs for the mining of exposed reef with stoping and logistics teams.
  • Co-ordinates interaction between logistics and mining.
  • Supports the sourcing of required equipment and materials.

  • Maintains compliance to development/stoping/equ
