Position Summary:
- Reports to North America I/E Reliability Engineer. This is a time-limited position lasting 3-6 months. Responsible for the following:
- Support Risk Based Reliability and Inspection Program in a chemical manufacturing plant. Support the programs that affect a reduction or elimination of identified operational risks within the plant electrical department, and facility related systems. The Electrical Engineer Intern will impact electrical control and power system effectiveness, daily operations, overall plant safety, product quality and environmental and sustainability initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Support the plant’s Electrical I/E program.
- Support the monthly Manager’s Reliability Update
- Learn, use, and become proficient in all the Reliability programs, RMS, RCM Turbo, Etc.
- Scheduling and oversight of all inspections required to maintain compliance with the Risk Based Reliability and Electrical I/E Programs.
- Responsible for the management of the plant’s engineering documentation, consistent with the requirements of the Process Safety Management Directive. (PSM)
- As assigned or as applied to Reliability, execute small to medium scale plant capital projects including scope development, estimate, economic justification, request for funding, construction package development and installation oversight when necessary. (Projects where the scope does not justify resources from the AN Project Team)
- As assigned or as applied to Reliability, execute small to medium scale plant maintenance projects including scope development, estimate, economic justification, request for funding, construction package development, and installation oversight.
- Provide plant electrical engineering resource for Administration, Environmental, Safety, Operations and Maintenance.
- Assist with the develop plant engineering policies, procedures, standards, and system implementation consistent with IPL Group Engineering Standards, API Standards, and PSM Electrical I/E Requirements.
- Write Work Requests, Service and Consulting Contracts. Supervise and coordinate outside and professional services.
- Write material requisitions and purchase specifications, solicit and evaluate quotations, select materials and equipment.
- Recommend plant improvements and alterations for improved performance and safety.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analyses
- Comply with applicable regulatory health and safety policies and practices in order to ensure personal safety and the safety of all employees, company assets, environment and regulatory compliance.
- Other duties may be assigned within the capabilities of the successful candidate, as determined by management.
Requirements:
- Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Third or fourth year of achieving BS in Electrical Engineering; Key Competencies:
- Power systems analysis

- Understanding of the measures of effectiveness, and methodology for sharing and establishing on-going engineering best practice.
- Understanding of the regulations governing Process Safety Management (PSM) and the application to the site engineering systems and operations.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Be qualified for signing work permits
- Be qualified for issuing Excavation permits
- Be qualified for issuing Confined Space Permits
- Be qualified to conduct and participate in Job Safety Analysis.

Work Environment & Physical Conditions:

- Generally work in an office environment. Long periods of computer and office machine use. Requires sitting, stooping and kneeling for filing, use of hands and fingers, ability to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk short distances. The employee may need to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. In the plant, subject to chemicals, products, temperatures and pressures associated with nitrogen fertilizer plants, and all outdoor weather conditions.
- Wears appropriate personal protective equipment and follows all plant and OSHA safety rules. Ability to physically observe and inspect plant equipment that may require entering, climbing and some lifting.
