Lead Resource/Mine Geologist — Cu/Au

  • Senior Management position
  • Resource definition and mine geology focus
  • Team manager and technical role
An emerging name in copper production is currently seeking an experienced Resource geologist to head up the mine geology team at their flagship project in Queensland. The site consists of an existing open pit mine developing 25,000 tonnes of copper per year with the potential to develop deeper ore bodies through the development of an underground mine at the same site. This is predominantly focused on the development of copper ore bodies but also holds the potential for gold recovery.

The existing mine geology team is made up of relatively inexperienced geologists and hence the senior management is seeking a strong leader to develop and assist the team, whilst updating the resource model for the site. The mine life is expected to be 6 years with the potential for extension through numerous ongoing exploration programmes.

In order to be considered for this position applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Tertiary degree in Geology or a similar discipline
  • 8-10 years experience in mine and resource geology in an open pit environment, ideally in regards to copper and gold
  • Team management experience
  • Strong motivational skills
  • Strong Surpac modelling experience
Ideally applicants will also hold:
  • Exposure to underground mine geology
  • Experience of oxide copper deposits
  • Exposure to epithermal vein deposits
  • Strong grade control and reconciliation experience
This is the most senior mine geology position on site providing a senior management opportunity for the right candidate and excellent career development potential on a relatively new operation. Meeting the above criteria will also provide the successful candidate with an excellent remuneration package.
