A major international mining consultancy is in the process of expanding their Perth operations due to a demand in their services and are seeking a Principal level geotechnical engineer to assist in the development of the geotechnical group. The organisation have been providing sustainable mining solutions to the Australian market for over 50 years and pride themselves in delivering practical, innovative and cost-effective solutions to their clients in order to develop sustainable mining practices. These services are delivered by a specialist team of technical leaders in their disciplines who share the organisation's determination to be a forerunner in the mining industry.
There are currently a number of roles available within the Perth based Geotechnical team, however the key role at this time is for a technically strong geotechnical engineer with excellent commercial and business management skills to join the business with the ability to assist in business development through the utilisation of existing contacts in WA. The role sits below the team manager holding responsibility for assisting internal programme development, providing strategic team direction, tender development and contract negotiation, raising company profile in the industry and providing technical excellence on project work for a variety of commodities and mine operations.
Services provided by the geotechnical division include:
Slope stability analysis for pit design
Geotechnical and geophysical data collection and interpretation
Underground safety assessment and analysis
Stope and drive stability analysis for underground operations
Pillar design
Shaft extraction method analysis and risk assessment
Seismic monitoring and interpretation
Rockmass characterisation and mining method optimisation
Geotechnical assessment and analysis of mining infrastructure
Shotcrete assessment and application
This role will involve providing technical assistance to clients across the above services whilst utilising existing industry contacts to develop new business and also provide assistance and mentoring to junior team members in order to develop their skills set. In order to be successful within this position applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A tertiary education in civil or geotechnical engineering coupled with upwards of 10 years experience in the mining industry
- Strong skills across a variety of geotechnical disciplines
- An excellent understanding of rock and soil mechanics
- Exposure to both open pit and underground mining operations
- Experience of leading and managing teams
- Strong project management skills
- Strong client relationship and development skills
- Exposure to designing and costing work proposals
The above criteria will be rewarded with the ability to work across a variety of mining operations and commodities, a high level of autonomy within the role, a Perth based Monday to Friday position and an excellent remuneration package.
