Procurement Supervisor

Our client is one of the leading copper producers in the world. The group also produces significant volumes of other metals including zinc, silver and gold. They are seeking the services of a Procurement Supervisor, based in Perth on a residential basis, from Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm.

The Procurement Supervisor is accountable to the Procurement Manager and will be responsible for the following functions:

Strategic Functions:
  • Advising on strategic network optimization, including warehousing and distribution;
  • Aligning overall organisational strategy with suppliers with the focus on building partnerships;
  • Sourcing and other purchasing decisions;
  • Development of long term supply and service contracts; Inventory decisions, including quantity, location and quality of inventory;
  • Advising on development of transportation strategy, including frequency, routes and contracting;
  • Benchmarking of all operations against competitors and implementation of best practices throughout the enterprise;
  • Recognise and execute training and development opportunities for supporting team members.
Operational Functions:
  • Negotiations on contract & operating issues with suppliers;
  • Prepares contracts for delegated suppliers sourcing planning, including current inventory and forecast demand, in collaboration with all suppliers;
  • Inbound operations, including transportation from suppliers and receiving inventory;
  • Organizing freight and mobilization of service contractors to operation sites;
  • Supervise vendor purchase order issuance and execution;
  • Receive, track, review and/or approve required vendor document submittals utilising document control processes and procedures; 
  • Evaluate vendor performance and progress as well as identify actions to correct vendor performance as needed.
The following functional areas will report to the Procurement Supervisor: 
  • Procurement 
  • Warehousing 
The following are essential requirements for the position of Procurement Supervisor:
  • 8 years experience, in relevant areas of procurement on supervisory/senior management roles; 
  • Purchasing, negotiation and planning skills (eg. inquiry/negotiation/e-commerce, PO issuing, commercial agreements/contracts, work planning etc);
  • Creative problem solving and flexibility of thinking;
  • Strong preference for experience with large mining projects;
  • Experience with integrated ERP business systems;
  • Extensive negotiation skills;
  • Energetic and enthusiastic self starter;
  • Ability to manage large workload with numerous demands occuring at the same time;
  • Good communication skills - verbal and written both internally and externally;
  • Strong analytical abilities.
