Controls Engineer
Job Description:
- [Company] is currently seeking a Controls Engineer for our client who has an immediate need in Denver. Candidates must have a strong background in Electrical Controls and Bachelor’s Degree.
Job Purpose:
- This role is responsible for the development of new control systems and instrumentation engineering within a research environment and applicable to the manufacturing and delivery of bulk & packaged explosives and their precursors. This role interacts globally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Job Duties:
- Identify improvement opportunities in existing manufacturing and construction processes via the use of new control systems or instrumentation technologies
- Participate in control system/instrumentation design, development and testing pertaining to innovative manufacturing and delivery systems
- Ensure designs and novel technologies are robust through the use of appropriate verification & validation processes
Education and Experience:
- Electrical Engineering or similar, Bachelors or higher qualification.
- 5-7 years relevant industrial experience.
Skills:
- Solid foundation in control systems and instrumentation engineering, theory and practical implementation. Hands-on experience is a must.
- Candidate must have experience in design, program and commissioning of control systems in a process controls setting.
- Absolutely must have a willingness and aptitude to learn new technologies
- Must have an understanding of microcontroller operation, microcontroller peripherals and systems such as PWM outputs, A/D converters, etc.
- Candidate must have experience with PID process control utilizing instrumentation for flow pressure, temperature, level and weighing.
- Implementing rich user interfaces for microdevices or industrial applications is a plus
- Professional experience with robotics or factory automation is a plus
- Project management experience is a plus
- Candidate must be familiar with the implementation of PLC’s. HMI’s. SCADA, AC and DC drives, fieldbus, closed-loop-control, IEC 61131-3 programming languages, and electrical engineering documentation including schematics, assembly drawings, etc.)
- Familiarity with large equipment of off-road/highway equipment is desired, mining equipment is preferred.
Dimensions:
- International travel up to 30%.
- Infrequent field work that may require visits to underground and surface mines.
- No direct reports, but some management of external contractors.
- Reports to the Lead Controls & Instrumentation Engineer within the Control Systems and Automation Research Group
