Underground Mining Engineer

Job Description:

  • As a result of continued growth in their new local mining group, a national consulting engineering firm is seeking to hire a Mining Engineer for their Phoenix Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishment of Site office and facilities.
  • Resource Management of Site Personnel including the obtaining of relevant documentation and permits.
  • Administration, including invoicing, salaries, record keeping, report writing, general correspondence to client and contractor.
  • Chairing of Contractors meetings, recording of minutes.
  • Contract Management of Major Contractors and Sub-Contractors with regards to budget, programmed, quality and safety.
  • Major Civil and Structural Installation and commissioning, including winders, station steel work, sheaves and headgear for tertiary incline shafts, services and Refrigeration plant construction.
  • Management of site to ISO9001 Standards.
  • Implementation of site-specific codes of practice, safety standards and site procedures.
  • Presentations to Senior Management on alternative layouts, site-specific decisions, engineering, project progress, cash flows and capital estimates and Applications for expenditure.
  • Checking of engineering drawings, issue for construction, document control and 'as-built' updates.
  • Ensure that the methodology and tools used to undertake mining studies, ore reserve estimates and analysis are appropriate to attain the level of accuracy to meet the client requirements at minimum cost.
  • Ensure all reserve estimate statements undertaken comply with the appropriate code.
  • Maintain and improve technical skills in mining engineering in order to:
  • Improve the quality of technical solutions
  • Increase clients perception of technical capability
  • Reduce error rate (reduced cost and improved client acceptance)
  • Improve efficiency (reduced costs/improved competitiveness)
  • Act as Responsible engineer (project manager) for nominated projects.
  • Identify developments in mining practice and analysis techniques which offer opportunity for improved efficiency and business development

Qualifications:

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in mine planning
  • Degree level qualified in an Engineering Discipline
  • 2 years mining engineering experience including mine design and planning, logistics planning and operations optimization. Project manager for various studies, quality systems representative.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering and experience in Financial Valuation of Mining Projects.
  • Highly literate in mine planning programs including programs such as: Surpac, Datamine, Whittle, Vulcan.
  • Vulcan – Mine Design
  • Mine 2-4D or Data mine Experience
  • Scheduling Experience EPS, P6 or Project
  • Safety leadership.
  • Continually improves own performance in regards to customer service, technical excellence, and interpersonal skills.
  • Actively seeks both repeat and new business opportunities within the marketplace.
  • Maintain high ethics and work standards at all times.
  • Maintains and develops professional and technical competencies.
  • Demonstrates effective negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Experience with underground mining is highly desirable.
