Thermal In Situ Oil Sands – Kirby Projects
Canadian Natural’s existing Thermal operations are based in the Cold Lake/Bonnyville area and produce approx. 100,000 bbl/d of heavy oil. The Kirby In Situ Oil Sands project is part of the Thermal Heavy Oil Growth Strategy to deliver over 300,000 bbl/d of heavy oil by the year 2020. The Kirby project is expected to produce 40,000 bbl/d and first steam is planned for late 2013 and is located Northeast of Lac La Biche, near Conklin, AB. The Kirby project is the first of several SAGD projects that we will be building in the Lac Biche – Ft. McMurray corridor over the next decade.
As the Kirby SAGD Project progresses through design and construction into commissioning and start-up, we will be looking for good people to build the Kirby Operations and Maintenance team. Operations and Maintenance positions will be based at our Kirby SAGD plant near Lac La Biche. Transportation and camp accommodations will be provided. Salaried positions shift schedule will be a 4 on 3 off and hourly positions will be a 7 on 7 off schedule.

As a key member of our project team, the Construction Manager will ensure efficient construction execution, high quality installation, a safe and environmentally friendly workplace and adherence to schedule and rigorous cost control for the project.
LEADERSHIP:
• Manage and monitor the activities and work of contractors
• Ensure efficient construction execution, high quality installation, safe and environmentally friendly workplace and adherence to schedule and rigorous cost control for the project
• Provide a safe work environment with the result being minimum incidents or accidents and low frequency rates for all injuries consistent with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations and guidelines and Canadian Natural’s objectives
HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Provide front end constructability, project construction planning, contracting and execution strategies for different elements of the project
• Work with the Supply Chain group to prequalify contractors to bid and execute the work
• Monitor and appraise contractors during the construction and pre-commissioning phases of the work and confirm that effective corrective action has been taken for all identified deficiencies as necessary to complete the facilities consistent with schedule, specifications, procedures, company objectives and construction management best practices
• Assist in the preparation of contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with suppliers and subcontractors
• Implement quality control programs
• Prepare and issue regular progress reports to management on cost, schedule, health and safety, environment and quality compliance
• Review detailed construction work packages for integration with engineering, procurement and construction
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 10+ years of related construction industry experience with an Engineering degree or relevant Engineering Technician certificate
• Registration with APEGGA as a Professional Engineer is considered an asset
• Certification as a PMP with the Project Management Institute, Gold Seal Certification with the Canadian Construction Association or certification with other recognized programs relative to project and construction management will be ideal.
Demonstrated experience and understanding of:
• Setting up a construction management team (CMT) to manage on site work
• Preparation of construction budget estimates, schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
