Process Control Engineer
Description:

To determine, implement and manage sophisticated control strategies, electrical and automation applications / systems, including: ongoing changes for process improvement, process layout for new projects, and process and control system troubleshooting in the manufacturing and engineering facilities, within Americas region and possible support to other OMYA regions. This position will report to the Electrical and Automation Engineering manager – Region Americas

Process Systems Design: Work with the engineering and production staff to define process, and process visualization, requirements for complex projects. Design, test, and implement process control systems including PLCs and SCADA systems. Develop the logic programs and SCADA configuration of these control systems.

Process Improvement: Work with production, plant management, and maintenance to recommend and implement changes to improve the existing process.

Electrical Design: PLC hardware specification and electrical panel design.

SCADA Development: Coordinate with engineering and production personnel to develop process visualization systems. This development includes graphics, alarming, and all other facets of modern SCADA systems.

Electrical Systems: Understand and be able to support design and troubleshoot electrical systems in substations and electrical rooms (power distribution, motor starters, VFDs, power quality conditioning)

Capital Projects: For complex and sophisticated projects, develop Control Strategies and applications to operate new plant equipment. Support the checkout, commissioning, and optimization of equipment. Meet with process equipment suppliers to ensure delivered systems meet plant automation, electrical, and instrumentation standards.

Documentation: Maintain PLC and SCADA documentation and “redlining” of electrical and process drawings.

Standards: Development of automation and control standards

Hardware-Instrumentation/Software Specification: Evaluate and select commercially available software packages for use in the plant for SCADAs, programming packages, databases, production reporting, simulation and PID tuning programs.

Evaluate and select commercially available hardware - instruments, UPS, PC, industrial keyboards, equipment enclosures, etc.

Control System Networks: Design and troubleshoot control networks and components (Ethernet, Profibus, AS-I, etc.), be able to work in conjunction with IT department in order to meet company network standards.

Price Negotiations: In cooperation with the Purchasing Department work with suppliers of SCADA software, PLC programming software, electrical and automation applications to negotiate volume discounts.

Contractors: Seek Competitive bids from contractors and vendors for components related to electrical and automation areas, including their applications and engineering development firms.

Travel for this position could be up to 50 percent; and will involve international travel; and may require periods on site of several weeks.
Requirements:
- BS in Electrical or Computer Science related career. Minimum five years in an automated minerals processing facility, including experience in process control engineering, computer programming (Visual Basic, Visual C), data acquisition systems, network support, and Windows Operating Systems. Must have ability to design and read electrical drawings, and have strong troubleshooting technique. System integration in Schneider PLC Families, GE- Cimplicity and database/spreadsheet development is preferred but not required. AutoCAD and MS Project software acknowledge are preferred. Bilingual (English-Spanish) is also preferred.
