Job Description
- This individual will be primarily responsible for operating a water truck to control airborne dust caused by production activities in a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly manner. Performs pre and post trip vehicle safety inspections and reports vehicle condition. Checks all vehicle fluid levels and adds fluids as necessary. Fills tank of truck with water at beginning of and throughout the shift, as necessary. Safely operates water truck in yard, pit, on haul roads, and on plant access roads while operating sprayers to achieve and maintain appropriate yard surface moisture. Follows established traffic patterns avoiding hazards. Promptly reports any unsafe conditions. Maintains good housekeeping practices on equipment and in the plant. Observes the plant and reports any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required. Fuels vehicle as needed and at the end of each shift.
- This individual will also participate and assist in the maintenance and repair of stationary production equipment in an aggregate plant setting including but not limited to conveyors, crushers, shakers, elevators, drives, and screws. Will inspect and document condition of machinery for items needing repair or service. This includes diagnosing problems and performing mechanical repair and maintenance; Replacing or repairing defective parts using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment; and may order parts from central services or outside suppliers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of one year experience operating a Water Truck in a sand and gravel plant is required. Previous experience in the maintenance and repair of stationary production equipment is preferred.
Special Skills and Requirements:
- Must have a valid Arizona drivers’ license with a clean driving record. CDL class A or B is preferred, but not required. Must be able to perform an accurate and thorough pre and post shift inspection, have working knowledge of the equipment in order to recognize needed repairs required and possess excellent defensive driving skills. Must have the ability to climb ladders and operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner; have knowledge and understanding of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations; perform tasks in a safe and efficient manner; and possess hazard recognition skills. This position also required solid knowledge and understanding of the capabilities of the equipment as well as specifications of different finished materials. Must be able to recognize various products by sight and to understand proper plant operation; possess adequate personal tools to participate in maintenance and repair activities; and be able to lift plant components up to 50 pounds, work at heights of up to 50-feet, and move in a variety of body positions. Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are required. Must be punctual and dependable, initiate and take action before being required to do so, and use time efficiently. Must be safety conscious and respond to inquiries promptly and follow through to ensure the situation is taken care of correctly.
