Maintenance Manager with GCC Mines & Works

A large opencast manganese mine based in the Northern Cape [ Kathu ] requires an experienced and qualified Mechanical/Electrical Engineer to lead and manage the maintenance team.

Minimum Requirements

• A diploma or degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
• Government Certificate of Competency for Mines (GCC)
• A tertiary business qualification (MDP, EDP, MBA) would be advantageous
• Ability to plan and communicate effectively
• Computer Literacy
• Project Management knowledge will be advantageous
• At least five years’ experience in an equivalent role in an open cast mine

Job Specification

The successful incumbent will be responsible for activities which will include but not limited to:

• Appoint and manage a strong and competent maintenance team to execute the engineering and maintenance functions.
• Ensure appropriate appointments in terms of the Mine, Health and Safety Act (MHSA) are in place.
• Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environmental standards/policies within your area of responsibility.
• Develop a maintenance strategy for the Mine and ensure successful implementation.
• Ensure that individual employees in your section are provided with the correct development opportunities.
• Develop all engineering standards and ensure successful implementation.
• Liaise with the production department to ensure that targets are achieved
• Conduct regular inspections and records
• Keep up to date all the required  statutory documents
• Keep abreast of new technologies and developments in control and instrumentation.
• Ensure compliance and adherence to the budget
• Ensure continuous improvement which will result in cost saving for the Company.
• Approve budgetary expenditures within authorization limits.
• Ensure in-depth knowledge and understanding of technical engineering aspects such as OEM’s and SABS standards.
