Chief Mine Geologist

Our Client is a global leader in the mining industry and has an unsurpassed reputation in the industry for excellence in mining exploration, mine planning, operations and mine maintenance.

 An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Chief Geologist to play a key leadership role in one of their major mining operations in the Northern Canada. If you are an experienced geologist with extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary mining project teams in a high producing underground mine environment then this is the career progression opportunity that you have been waiting for.

 Summary:

This position will manage, co-ordinate and control geological functions in the areas of production, resource management, drilling and geophysics. The position operates with a four (4) days in / three (3) days out rotation and requires candidates to reside in a remote mining location in Northern Canada. With this role comes the need for outstanding leadership skills, the ability to motivate a team of geologists, and the drive to overcome unique challenges that arise whilst working on a remote mine site in the north.

 Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management, control, and coordination of the geological functions in the areas of production resource management, drilling and geophysics
  • Managing the geophysical program in a manner that provides timely information for inclusion in the resource estimation process and mine planning
  • Developing an in-depth knowledge of local geology, both of the ore body and the surrounding environment including the impact of local geological conditions on underground mining operations
  • Ensuring that all information relevant to the resource statement is reconciled and presented in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Managing the underground drilling program in an efficient manner to provide data for resource estimation, mine planning and hydro-geological parameters
  • Participating in a multi-disciplinary project environment by providing geological expertise
  • Preparing and presenting project geological information for technical review and sign-off by operations and headquarters personnel.

 Requirements:

  • Professional Geologist with eligibility for professional designation in the Northwest Territories.
  • At least five (5) years of geological production experience in a fully mechanized underground mining operation, and experience at management level with mine operations and mineral resources / technical services.
  • Outstanding leadership, people management and communication skills, are essential and the ability to lead and motivate a dynamic team of geologists will be integral to the success of the position.
  • Strong computer skills are essential including previous experience with Gemcom or other modeling software. AutoCAD and MS SQL would be an asset.

 The ideal candidate will understand and be able to meet the unique challenges and opportunities of working on a remote mine site in the north.
