Safety Technician

Position Summary

  • Oversees compliance with applicable Federal and State Regulations pertaining to fire fighting and evacuation, compliance with self-contained self-rescuer storage, emergency fire drills, escapeway drills and required SCSR training at the mine.
  • Responsible for management and installation of all lifeline of underground installations.

Target Responsibilities

  • Prepares and administers Self-Contained Self-Rescuer Training for employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Clean and repack units following training.
  • Maintains records in accordance with regulations.
  • Coordinates and participates in the inspection of SCSR caches in the mine and records maintenance.
  • Advises management of required SCSR checks.
  • Performs manufacturer required checks of SCSRs in compliance with State and Federal Regulations every 90 days.
  • Oversees installation of SCSR caches at required locations in the mine, documents locations on required maps and notifies management and all underground employees of the locations.
  • Schedules and maintains records of mandated quarterly Fire Drills for all underground employees and assures documentation of such is in order.
  • Prepares and maintains all SCSR training units.
  • Schedules quarterly escapeway drills for all sections, sections being installed/removed, rehabilitation sites and ensures documentation is compliant.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Degree in Industrial Health and Safety or Engineering preferred.
  • Recipient of miner's certificate and possess enough skills to transport themselves into areas of the mine that have been pre-shift examined.
  • Requires knowledge of facility operations.
  • Certification as a State and Federal Instructor is desired and possess certifications in First Aid.
  • Be knowledgeable of gas detection devices.
  • Must possess effective verbal communication skills
  • Must possess effective computer skills
  • Must possess strong organizational skills
