Geologist

Our client, a downtown oil and gas company, is seeking a Senior Geologist to join their team on a permanent basis. The position will report to the Manager of Geoscience and will be based in Calgary.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Planning and executing vertical delineation well drilling programs 
  • Planning and executing horizontal SAGD well drilling programs 
  • Integrating and assessing new geological information into geological models and maps 
  • Conducting detailed sedimentological characterization of the reservoir 
  • Petrophysical interpretation of the reservoir 
  • Geomodelling of the assets 
  • Performing stratigraphic correlation and subsurface mapping of the assets 
  • Calculations of in-place resource estimates and uncertainty analysis 
  • Interacting with all geological consulting and service companies 
  • Communicating closely with the geophysicist and reservoir engineers 
  • Corresponding with the Energy and Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) when necessary 
  • Planning, developing and writing technical documents 
  • Conducting technical presentations to senior management 
  • Mentoring junior geologists 

Qualifications Include:
  • Minimum 7 years of oil sands or related geological experience preferred 
  • Minimum B.Sc. in Geology, but Masters of Geology is preferred 
  • Sound knowledge of geophysical wireline log interpretation 
  • Good command of clastic sedimentological description and interpretation 
  • Advanced stratigraphic correlation and subsurface mapping skills 
  • Good knowledge of Petrel and Accumap software 
  • Good understanding of geomodelling and geostatistics 
  • Excellent planning and execution skills 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team 
  • Capacity to execute projects autonomously 
  • Strong organizational skills
