Quality Control Technician - Concrete

Job Description

• Inspect production materials and products, prepare samples and conduct testing to ensure compliance with DOT, customer and Company standards on all materials. Prepare and maintain accurate data of testing results.  Prepare various reports, work with outside vendors, agencies and customers, and formulate specific recommendations to resolve or correct quality issues.

Required Skills

• Inspect, sample, and conduct routine and special laboratory testing on construction aggregates, masonry products and ready mix concrete in conformance with appropriate standard test methods
• Ensure quality of products during production, shipping, and at jobsites
• Communicate test results to supervisors and properly document the results in a database
• Prepare statistical summary quality reports
• Troubleshoot plant and jobsite problems
• Visually inspect material sources, stockpiles, and truck loads at RMC batch plants
• Conduct testing and assist in plant calibrations to ensure product quality
• Verify outside construction materials testing laboratory results and maintain accurate, timely records of test data, product quality and defective materials   
• Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor
• Complies with all and ensures compliance of all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies, procedures and requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma
• Associate’s Degree preferred
• Experience: One (1) year laboratory testing experience in ready-mix concrete or construction aggregate properties preferred
• License: Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record

Certifications (ability to obtain):

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
• ACI Strength Testing Technician
• ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I
• ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level I
• DOT Batch Plant Operator Certification

Must have knowledge of concrete mix design characteristics and product specifications. Must have knowledge of basic mathematical principles. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Must have sufficient level of education to understand oral and written instructions of a technical nature relating to products and equipment. Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, including reading and writing.
