Operator-Plt/Rdy Mix - RMC

Job Description

• This position is responsible for the daily operations of ready mix plant which include manufacturing various ready mix products, maintenance, and repair of all ready mix related equipment to ensure production quality and quantity standards are met in an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly manner.
• Manufactures various Ready-Mix Concrete products according to mix design and customer jobsite specifications by batching raw materials including: aggregate products, cement, water, and various mineral and chemical mixtures. 
• Loads R.M.C into concrete mixer trucks. Operates dry-batch or central-mix manual or automatic batch plant.
• Reads and/or writes delivery tickets to determine mix design called for each load, performs calculations pertaining to percentages of moisture in aggregates and individual design weights for differing load sizes, elevates individual materials into weigh hoppers, weigh materials, loads mixer trucks, and issues drivers delivery tickets. Shovels and sweeps spilled materials from walkways and lubricates batch plant as needed. 
• Controls inventory of materials and admixtures.   Inspects and reports condition of machinery for items needing repair or service. 
• Diagnoses problems and performs mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Replaces or repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment. 
• Rebuilds or fabricates parts.  Reads technical manuals and may order parts from central services or outside suppliers.  May drive pick-up or maintenance truck in the plant and to pick-up parts. 
• Answers phones and takes orders for ready mix concrete, schedules orders for delivery and dispatches drivers to deliver loads.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And/or Experience Required:

• High school graduate or equivalent is required.  Requires a basic knowledge of specifications of different finished materials and knowledge of the capabilities of equipment.  Requires experience to recognize various products by sight and to understand proper plant operation. Requires a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in batch plant operation.  Good mechanical repair, accurate math skills and concise communication skills are required.  Previous computer experience is required. 

Special Skills or Requirements:

• Must have the ability to climb ladders, lift plant components up to 50 pounds, and work at heights of up to 100-feet and move in a variety of body positions.   Must be familiar with the material manufacturing process as well as the safety and environmental issues related to ready mix.
