Business Manager

Remarkable Mining venture has an outstanding position open for a Business Manager. Only South African citizens, who are suitably qualified and meet the requirements of the position, are eligible to apply for this vacancy.

The mine is one of the largest open pit operations in Southern Africa with a life of mine in excess of 20 years. The mine is looking for highly educated, motivated and dedicated individuals who would like to grow and develop with the mine. The ideal candidate should have good communication skills in a competitive environment, a strong desire to learn new skills, be able to work independently as well as part of a team and enjoy high stress production environments.

Requirements:
  • Matric/ Grade 12 Certificate
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Relevant Mining Degree
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate
  • Up to 15 years (in total) Operational exposure to Mining with at least 5 years Production Management experience
  • Up to 5 years Senior management exposure
  • Post Graduate Business Degree (Management / Business Administration) would be advantageous 
  • Knowledge of Corporate Governance and relevant legislation impacting the business
  • Technical knowledge of various functional areas of responsibility
  • Strategic and visionary skills

  • Business acumen and insight
  • Industry and competitor knowledge
  • Ability to translate strategy into action plans
  • Business strategy and mine plan/ strategic initiatives:
  • Develop a business strategy for the Mine and present strategy for approval.
  • Ensure Mine strategy and related initiatives are integrated and aligned with business strategy and plans
  • Lead, monitor and control the Mines business performance
Financial management:
  • Sound commercial and financial models are applied to ensure value creation and efficient financial business functioning
  • Ensure operating income, cash flow and turnover; monitor and track performance against approved business plans and budgets
  • Effective management of both resources and assets
  • Analyse financial information and request models and interpretation of relevant information
  • Manage and control budget (Opex & Capex) by authorizing costs and monitoring expenditure
Risk management:
  • Evaluate risks, develop and implement strategy
  • Formalise and manage legal agreements (including SLA's)
Visionary leadership:
Provide direction and ensure execution of the company vision and strategic objectives and achievement of expected results

Customer relations:
  • Ensure efficient customer service and professional communication when liaising with customers, service providers as well as the local community
  • Attend and manage community forums
Best practice research and continuous improvement:
  • Ensure business systems are maintained and optimised by conducting continuous research.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, projects and processes toward ensuring focused business growth and alignment with international standards / practices.
  • Coordinate submission of appropriate management reports (financial and non-financial) to the relevant managers
  • Manage operational performance
SHERQ, business governance and compliance:
  • Ensure an effective methodology of business operations, communications and control whereby statutory compliance and appropriate mitigation of risk is achieved
  • Ensure the adherence to OHS Act and Mine compliance with specific SHREQ policies and procedures
  • Manage risk and monitor standards in line with policies and regulation
  • Create awareness and assume responsibility for SHREQ practices of the Mine
People management:
  • Manage own team’s performance
  • Recruit and select employees
  • Manage employee relations
  • Train and develop employees
Preference will be given to Historically disadvantaged individuals.
The candidate must reside in the Mpumalanga area.
