Construction Manager

Our client, an international EPCM company, currently has as exciting opportunity available for a Construction Manager based in their Calgary office.

 Responsibilities:

  • Proposal support and development for new opportunities.
  • Lead constructability efforts for projects and the office.
  • Based on size and complexity of projects, as well as office work load, this position may assign dedicated resources to individual projects reporting to the incumbent.
  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Administer programs, systems and practices that result in the safest possible working environment that conforms to company safety policies and procedures and other applicable statutes
  • Ensure efficient and effective deployment of the required technical workforce
  • Oversee training and performance management so that construction employees are able to effectively perform duties. Encourage leadership amongst team members through development planning, management by objectives and recognition
  • Manage the construction function,
  • Oversee permitting, environmental, statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Advise, from a construction perspective, on strategic objectives and ensure that best practices are incorporated into the construction process
  • Participate as a member of senior staff, in concert with General Manager in decision making and initiatives site wide
  • Oversee annual departmental budgeting and periodic forecasts. Participate in the capital expenditure authorization process
  • Ensure completeness and consistency in cost reporting on a monthly basis and production reporting as required
  • Follow appropriate internal accounting controls and take the necessary corrective action to protect the assets of the operation to enable effective cost, financial and management reporting
  • Other responsibilities as required

 Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent project experience
  • Minimum 10 years mining experience
  • 10-15 years of Construction Management experience within the mining and oil & gas industries
  • Strong leadership skills required. Needs to be able to influence Engineering/Procurement, and the Client to make decisions that help ensure the success of field execution.
  • Experience with the budgeting process
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Proven and exemplary leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
