Introduction
Senior Mining Engineer  Northern Cape
An opencast mining concern based in the Northern Cape is actively seeking an experienced Mining Engineer with demonstrable successes in a mining engineering (Open Pit) environment to ensure the effective planning of all mining activities and other surface operations

Minimum Requirements
  • B.Degree or National Diploma in Mining Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Mine Engineer
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at a supervisory/managerial role
  • Demonstrable successes in a mining engineering (Open Pit) environment
  • Demonstrable understanding of the mining business environment
  • Demonstrable experience in project management 
  • Understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Demonstrable knowledge of writing technical reports
 Job Specification
  • The Mining Engineer will be responsible for managing and overseeing mining production processes and to provide related information to support the achievement of the Company’s objectives.
 Key Performance Areas
  • Undertaking feasibility studies
  • Modelling and designing potential mine sites
  • Preparing mine plans (design and scheduling)
  • Working knowledge of Mine Planning Software(Surpac/Microstation, MineSched/Xpac, Datamine)
  • Overseeing major construction projects and ensuring that operations are functioning smoothly
  • Monitoring the Mine’s open pit mining production activities 
  • Overseeing staff activities, throughout the entire mine
  • Ensuring the safety of mining equipment and assessing mine equipment supplies
  • Costing and scheduling supplies
  • Establishing extraction systems
  • Providing consultancy and advice on mining and mineral extraction projects
  • Reclaiming/Rehabilitation of mine sites
  • Managing monthly budgets and keeping detailed records
  • Compliance with the  Minerals Act, Mine Health and Safety Act, Mining Charter and Environmental Management Programme
  • Adherence to safety standards and meeting safety objectives
  • Generating reports for the Senior Mining Engineer
