Job Description:

  • Maintains, constructs and repairs electrical distribution, lighting, computer and PLC systems within the plant; both power and controls – all this while exhibiting and championing safe work and environmental compliance practices for the incumbent as well as co-workers.

Essential Functions

  • Exhibits and maintains safe work and environmental compliance practices while performing the following tasks:
  • Lays out, designs, adjusts, reconfigures, constructs, assembles, installs, downloads, uploads, archives, trends, inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, troubleshoots and tests any and all types of electrical/electronic systems and equipment such as motors, generators, commutators, speed reducers, switchboards, circuit boards, lighting circuits, conduits, SCR, VFD, Liquid Rheostat or any other adjustable speed drive unit, solid state board or any electrical/electronic control device, computers, laptops, processors, PLC, CRT, etc., using blueprints, wiring diagrams, sketches, schematics, software, hardware, manufactures and verbal instructions, to include all necessary documentation.  Checks and verifies completed work to ensure proper operation.
  • Uses necessary instruments and tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, V.T.V.M’s, bridges, computers, laptops and any other industrial electrical/electronic analyzing equipment and tools needed in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Sets up and uses rigging to handle tools and equipment.  Uses mobile equipment such as man lifts and cranes at the direction of the supervisor.  Climbs poles or uses mobile equipment to run, repair, modify, remove, clean, etc., power lines and all associated equipment.  Starts and stops all types of plant equipment.
  • Designs, prepares, modifies, and maintains logs, reports, charts, schematics, prints, and any other paperwork incidental to duties.
  • Maintains equipment, work areas, measuring instruments, tools and accessories in a safe, clean, neat and orderly condition.
  • May perform minor mechanical work such as removing covers, lids or obstructions prior to electrical repair work, to include reinstall after completion.  Performs cutting and welding, such as, tacking brackets or small electrical clamps or holders as required or needed.  May paint any electrical/electronic panel, switchgear, motor windings, insulating equipment, control station, etc.
  • At the direction of the supervisor changes motor and performs alignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Good computer skills along with strong organization, communication, collaboration & teamwork skills req.
  • Ability to read blueprints both electrical and mechanical
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Preferred knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours.)
  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
  • Physical ability to climb on equipment
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy items using proper lifting techniques and/or equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours.)
  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
  • Physical ability to climb on equipment
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces
  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings
  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
  • Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require use of hearing protection
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts.
  • Exposure to cement, clay, limestone and various chemicals.  See MSDS for more details.
