Safety and Health Representative

Job Description

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of methods of prevention of accidents, occupational injuries and illnesses, and property losses.  Advise appropriate management of prevention methods to assist in loss control.
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of existing laws and regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health and communicate same to operational personnel in order to maintain compliance. This includes MSHA, OSHA and DOT compliance.
• Participate in quarterly management SHE and plant tailgate meetings and provide SHE-related materials to operations.
• Coordinate support functions for quarterly foremen’s SHE meetings.
• Evaluate accident potential in new and existing operations.  Implement and follow-up on preventive accident measures by conducting facility inspections. Conducts MSHA/OSHA compliance inspections and Company audits.
• Assist facility managers in accident investigations and in developing and implementing corrective action plans for the prevention of similar accidents.
• Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring based on Corporate Health sampling schedule.  Identify potential overexposure and overexposure cases and assist plant managers in implementing engineering and administrative controls and/or prescribing mandatory use of personal protective equipment.  Facilitates annual/periodic occupational health testing.
• Create and maintain a healthy partnership with facility and operation managers.
• Must be a comfortable and effective communicator in front of groups.
• Must be an effective communicator with various levels of management.

Required Skills

Responsible for implementation and administration of the Region’s Safety and Health Programs and Policies. Assists the Manager, Safety and Health and other Department members in developing and implementing safety, health, and risk management programs.  Primary responsibilities of this position are to work closely within the Safety and Health Department team and assist surface mining and ready mix concrete operations with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety training, hazard recognition, and health monitoring.
