Senior Manager - Mining Studies

My client is looking to hire a Senior Manager - Mining Studies for their Mining operations in South Africa.
Role description

  • The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities: 
  • Development of a mine geological system (process, structure, and people) to ensure geological practices are appropriately managed and opportunities are understood.
  • Development and execution of a Regional geological plan & budget and support Business Units' (BU) geological plans & budgets in order to ensure that plans and budgets are in place to manage significant risks, liabilities and opportunities. 
  • Building capacity within mine geology. 
  • Supporting BU & Region to capture and share mine geology related knowledge for continuous improvement. 
  • Providing technical specialist support and advice on all mine geological work and project interventions for the BUs. 
  • Review, monitor and evaluate BU's mine geological practices including reconciliation for executive decision-making and internal/external information sharing; 
  • Ensuring that all mine geological reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules and international reporting codes 
  • Monitor & evaluate progress and outcomes of all mine geological interventions against strategy objectives and targets; 
  • Provide technical specialist input into Corporate Auditing to improve identification and mitigation of mine geological related risks and liabilities. 
  • Ensurethe region's mine geological risks and liabilities are understood and appropriately managed as an integral part of business planning and operation and according to the company values and standards.
Who we're looking for
  • A recognised Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or equivalent. 
  • An additional postgraduate qualification in a relevant degree would be an advantage. 
  • Must be registered with a professional controlling for example JORC . SAMREC. 
  • A minimum of 10 years' industry experience with open pit, shear zone hosted gold mining experience preferable. 
  • A minimum of 3 years managerial experience at a Senior Management level. 
  • A minimum of 5 years in an operating environment would be advantageous.

The operations are run as four distinct regions - Southern Africa, Continental Africa, Australasia and The Americas.
