Environmental Health & Safety Internship

From 180 offices worldwide, our more than 8,000 employees work with clients to manage their environmental and engineering activities in a technically sound, economically viable, and socially responsible manner.
• [Company] is currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Intern. This position is a summer internship for 10-12 weeks, averaging about 30 hours per week (some flexibility in working hours). The intern will be working with a manufacturing client to update their process safety information to comply with OSHA Process Safety Management regulations. This individual will be responsible for:
• Working with technical staff in a manufacturing facility to review data from drawings and design documentation and enter information and equipment descriptions into their planning systems.

Requirements:
Education:

• Pursuing a BS or MS in an engineering or science degree (e.g., chemical/ environmental/ mechanical engineering, environmental health, or related degrees)

Technical Skills:

• Must be able to operate computers using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office including: Outlook, Word, and Excel and all additional relevant and required computer hardware and software
• Experience in SAP a plus, but not required
• Ability to understand Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s)
• Have exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Must be proficient in correct English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation
• Must be able to speak professionally and in a polite manner
• Travel to and work in an manufacturing setting 50% of the time
• Have an excellent driving record and valid driver’s license and is able to be insured
• Periodically work extended hours to complete project specific requirements
• Have exceptional customer service skills
• Work effectively as an individual and in a team environment
• Have exceptional problem solving skill and demonstrate accuracy in their work product
• Take initiative to solve problems; a “Self-starter" who effectively performs duties without extensive guidance
• Work in a safe manner in a variety of situations and be willing when necessary to wear personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.
• Must be willing to carry out company goals and policies

Physical Demands:

• Work in areas where solvent chemicals are present.
• Stand and walk or sit alternatively depending on specific needs of day. Estimate 80% of time is spent sitting at desk and 20% on feet.
• Has infrequent need to perform the following physical activities: bend/stoop/squat, climb stairs, push or pull, reach above shoulders.
• Constant needs to perform the following physical activities: writing/typing, grasping/turning, and finger dexterity.
• Lifting/carrying less than 20 pounds frequently.
• Vision requirements: constant requirement to read manuals, reports, complete forms and view computer screen. Constant need to see small detail.
• Hearing requirements: constant needs to communicate over telephone and in person.
