Chief Mining Engineer

Our client seeks to appoint a Chief Mining Engineer to their underground and open pit operation. Reporting to the Mining Manager, the Chief Mining Engineer will be responsible for the integration and coordination of engineering, surveying and projects functions to enable the production teams to safely achieve budget and Life of Mine Plan.

This position is also responsible for:
  • Ensuring identification and estimation of mineral resources and ore reserves and the design and management of systems for their safe recovery.
  • Managing short term and long term mine planning, mine ventilation, geotechnical engineering, drill and blast engineering and mine surveying.
  • Assisting the Mining Manager with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
  • Preparing and managing the budget for the function
To be considered, you will be a tertiary qualified Mining Engineer with significant experience in underground and open pit mining, preferably in gold. In addition you will possess:
  • Experience in Life of Mine Planning and Mine Planning.
  • Extensive experience in leadership and management of a multi-disciplinary team in a medium to large scale mining operation.
  • Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to a national workforce.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels
  • High level computer skills with proficiency in mining software
The position is offered on a 16/12 days or 9/5 days, 7/7 days rotation commuting from Cairns. The company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
