Welder / Fabricator

Job Description

• Constructs metal components together for fabrication or repair using a variety of methods according to layouts, blueprints and/or work orders.  Extensive use of welding and cutting equipment and other specialized metal cutting, bending, binding tools.

Required Skills

• Dismantles equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools
• Examines structure and texture of parts to detect imperfections
• Inspects used parts to determine changes of dimensional requirements, using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
• Adjusts functional parts of equipment and control instruments, using hand and/or power tools
• Fabricates parts in shop from blue prints
• Installs fabricated metal components in the processing plant
• May require out of town travel and overnight stays where necessary
• Performs other duties as instructed by Supervisor
• Complies with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies, procedures and requirements

Other Skills / Duties:

• Welding with stick and MIG equipment in all positions, welding machine adjustments to make quality welds
• Reads blueprints and layout project in the shop and/or field
• Use of shop equipment to include Piranha iron work, brake press and shaper/cutter
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent experience preferred
• Experience: Three (3) years of welding / fabrication in maintenance shop preferred
• License: Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record required

Must have sufficient level of education to understand oral and written instructions of a technical nature relating to plant component repairs, welding and fabrication. Must be able to troubleshoot equipment to diagnose problems and minimize downtime for repair and maintenance activities.  Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English including reading and writing.
