Senior Metallurgist Grinding

Our client is a major producer of copper concentrate for the world smelting market. The mine exports copper as the main product but it also extracts gold and silver. They currently have a vacancy for a Senior Metallurgist Grinding Reporting to the Coordinator Plant Metallurgy Grinding, you will be responsible for providing technical support for the operation of the grinding circuit to Mill Operations. The flow sheet is based on a conventional grinding and flotation process to produce a chalcopyrite concentrate and a pyrite concentrate, and gravity gold concentrate. The mill tailings are disposed of through a riverine tailings system.

Responsibilities;
  • You will be responsible for monitoring, recording and optimising the performance of the grinding circuit. 
  • You will also be required to continue to develop the operation’s understanding of the effect that the different ore types in the ore body have on the performance of the circuit. 
  • There will be an emphasis on improving the efficiency of the circuit by increasing the milling rate and / or optimising the size distribution of the product, and on developing process control systems to help in achieving this. 
  • You will have the support of Plant and Production Metallurgists, and you will be required to play a role in their development.

 To be successful in this role you will have the following;
  • As a minimum, you must have a Degree in Engineering or Science with a major in Mineral Processing or Extractive Metallurgy, and between 5 to 10 years of operating experience in mining and mineral processing operations. 
  • You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of grinding theory, an understanding of the practical operation of grinding mills. 
  • The ability to communicate effectively and well developed interpersonal and teamwork skills will be highly regarded.
