Environmental Permitting Practice/ Senior Client Leader

Overview:

  • Haley & Aldrich is looking for a qualified practitioner and proven leader to help the firm as a Client Leader and Environmental Permitting/Entitlements Consulting Practice Builder.  The successful candidate’s experience could be in any of H&A’s Real Estate (RE) market segments (Education, Healthcare, or Development), and cross-market experience in all markets is preferred.
  • The candidate should reside in the D.C. metropolitan area (i.e., D.C., VA, or MD), as this individual will be based out of H&A’s McLean, VA office.   It is anticipated that this position will facilitate services and provide value to clients primarily in the mid-Atlantic area, and occasional travel outside the region will be required.    The individual will report to the General Manager of the RE business unit on a day-to-day basis.  However, this individual will work closely with Market Segment Leaders for H&A’s three RE Market Segments (Institutions, Development, and Healthcare).  Additionally, the candidate is likely to work closely with the VP for Client Development | Mid-Atlantic and other Client Leaders across the company.
  • The candidate will be given the flexibility and resources needed to successfully build a practice, including bringing on additional staff (both junior and more senior) to support the growth of a practice.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have:

  • At least 15 years of total experience, with extensive involvement in permitting and entitlements, specifically focusing on:
  • Leading the permitting process for larger, complex development projects.  Someone who understands and has addressed project constraints from environmental impacts (wetlands and other ecological impacts, stormwater, traffic, air).
  • Significant experience in managing the NEPA process, so that the candidate will have that broader view of project constraints from environmental impacts as everything in D.C. gets permitted and goes through NEPA
  • Has worked with people at Army Corps; National Capital Planning Commission (if project on military base); and various VA/DC counties/entities who have their own planning commission/city council/zoning departments.
  • Strong Client Leader (relationship development and nurturing), business, and project management skills and experience – someone who understands and listens to the voice of the client.
  • Strong business development acumen and a robust network of past/current/potential clients (colleges and universities, secondary schools, developers, Federal or local government, and/or healthcare institutions) and business partners (e.g., attorneys, planners, and architects).
  • Excellent written, oral, public speaking, and listening skills
  • There is no rigid technical academic background required.  The candidate may come from a planning and/or even political background, and may have worked in consulting or for a client organization.
