Description and Desired Qualifications
- Serve the strategic and operational environmental compliance needs of our clients in the industrial and energy markets. Our Air Quality and Modeling Specialist careers provide you with an opportunity to work on air quality management and compliance, licensing and environmental permitting projects particularly focused on power, energy, oil and gas, and manufacturing. Each day, as a project team member you will be the face of CH2M HILL in a wide variety of air quality tasks, with particular focus on evaluating air quality impacts of significant infrastructure projects such as energy production, rail transit, highway improvements, and water supply and treatment. You should be a self-motivated professional with a minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience as Air Quality Engineer or Scientist in an industrial environmental consulting environment, and a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each Air Quality and Modeling Specialist job.
Our Air Quality and Modeling Specialists:
- Focus on stationary source permitting support, estimating emissions, Title V reporting, development of source category specific emission factors, regulatory compliance analyze and emission reporting for various federal and commercial facilities
- Previous experience with air quality dispersion modeling. These may include, but not be limited to, AERMOD, AERSCREEN, CALPUFF and VISCREEN.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), General Conformity, Transportation Conformity, and other federal and state laws and regulations, particularly as they relate to air quality compliance for power plants, compressor station, electrical utility, and industrial projects
- Work independently on multiple opportunities and as part of a mentoring process under the guidance of senior staff and peers
- Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess the ability to communicate projects outcomes with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, internal team members, and members of the community during public meetings.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Atmospheric Science from a U.S. accredited college or university
- Specific knowledge or experience in several of the following air permitting areas: new source review (NSR,) prevention of significant deterioration(PSD assessments), development of mobile or stationary air emission inventories, best available control technology (BACT) or lowest achievable emission achievable rate (LAER)evaluations and greenhouse gas inventories
- Experience in conducting dispersion modeling analyses required by state and/or federal regulatory agencies in support of air permitting requirements, environmental impact statements and off-site risk analyses.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience preparing air quality related analyses and environmental plans, particularly for infrastructure projects as may be required for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- 3-5 years’ experience Working knowledge of Federal and State air quality regulations including PSD, NNSR, MACT, RACT and NSPS.
- Experience with air quality permitting in the Northeastern US including both synthetic minor sources as well as major (Title V) sources.
- Specific experience related to air permitting of power generation and/or natural gas production and transmission projects is highly desired.
