Project Engineer - Electronic Hardware

Position Summary

• Core member of a next-generation new product development team, responsible for the design, analysis, test and integration of hardware for embedded communication and control modules. This position requires the proven ability to work with system, hardware and firmware design personnel to create project specifications and execute through the entire development cycle.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and approximately 10 years of experience in embedded hardware design.

At least two years of experience with two or more of the following:

• Ethernet hardware design and test, from the core processor to the Ethernet physical layer;
• High speed digital circuit design.
• Offline switching power supply design and test.
• Analog circuit design, including analog filter design and anti-aliasing filter design.

Experience with:

• Typical embedded control peripherals (ie. RAM, Flash, FPGA, SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, A/D, Ethernet, CAN);
• High density, high speed multi-layer printed circuit board design;
• Writing and executing hardware test specifications;
• Typical design and test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and digital signal analyzers.
• Demonstrated skills in the hardware development process, including circuit simulation, component derating, hardware debug & checkout, and electromagnetic compatibility.
• Proven ability to analyze and solve complex problems which involve both hardware and firmware.

Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with design and test to IEEE 1588 & IEEE 802.3 standards.
• Familiarity with design and test to ODVA Ethernet/IP standards.
• Experience with DeviceNet and/or CAN hardware design.
• Understanding of bus architectures & inter-processor communication strategies.
• Experience with Profibus and/or RS-485 hardware design.
• Experience with wireless hardware design per 802.11x.
• Energy metering and/or motor control experience.
• Mentor Graphics/Expedition schematic entry experience.
• Experience with Design for Six Sigma tools.
• Familiarity or proficiency with SAP for product data management and/or enterprise resource planning.
• Familiarity with applicable standards and certifications, including EN 60947-1, EN 60947-4-1, EN 60947-5-1, UL508C.
