Project Coordinator (Fabrication Support)

Summary: 

• Manage detailing and fabrication projects to ensure proper utilization of available fabrication capacity.  Successful candidate will evaluate the fabrication needs of assigned projects and make recommendations to management.  Additionally, successful candidate will assist manager with collecting structural steel trends and pricing.

Detailed Description
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned as required.

• Collect and assimilate fabrication information for internal project reports and progress reports for project manager.
• Assist project manager in tracking fabrication progress according to fabrication schedule to insure on time delivery of the project.
• Trend and understand current and future structural steel fabrication.
• Effectively communicate production issues with fabricators and assist fabricators with recovery plans when required.
• Track and confirm that all fabrication shop RFI’s are answered in a timely matter.
• Ensure that all detailing and fabrication RFI’s are distributed to the correct technical person for a response.
• Perform shop inspections to insure that the fabricator is on track in meeting schedule delivery dates and to verify that all quality assurance procedures are being followed.
• Provide weekly status reports as directed for all projects in detailing and fabrication.
• Track design drawings issued for fabrication and confirm when scope is complete.
• Must be able to develop a familiarity with company designed equipment and engineering process flow.
• Occasional international travel may be required.

Qualification /competency requirements:

• Education and/or Experience:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2-5 years of related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred with experience related to fabrication of structural steel systems.  Prior experience working in a QA/QC role a plus.
• Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret design drawings, detail drawings, and general fabrication notes.  Ability to understand fabrication RFI’s to insure that RFI’s are sent to the proper personnel for resolution.
• Microsoft Office Skills:  Must be proficient in using Excel to analyze data and build projection reports.  Proven working knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Project, Outlook, Excel) required.
• Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts when comparing proposals from fabricators.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
• Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists.  Ability to relate information from progress reports and schedules to determine if schedules are on track, early, or late.
• Candidate must be a self-starter and be capable of working in a team environment.  This position requires the candidate work closely with [Company] project managers, design manager, document control, and fabrication shops.
