Chief Mining Engineer

Our client, a Perth based exploration company developing a greenfield project in West Africa, seeks to appoint the services of an experienced Chief Mining Engineer. Reporting to the Mining Manager, the Chief Mining Engineer will lead a team of Mining Engineers in the provision of strategic, long and short term mine planning and mine design.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure open pit optimisation and designs are completed to the company standards and requirements 
  • Assist with the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to 
  • Review on a regular basis the Life of Mine (LOM) defining mining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved 
  • Manage geotechnical engineering programme to ensure optimal pit wall designs and appropriate factors of safety are implemented 
  • Co-ordinate and incorporate inputs from various sections such as geology, geotechnical engineering, mine operations, survey into the production schedules and designs 
  • Manage the Succession Planning of Engineers within the Team to ensure the development of national employees to assume positions of increasing accountability 
  • Be pro-active in all aspects of operation safety, efficient utilisation of resources, Continuous Improvement initiatives 
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following skills and experience:
  • A degree in Mining Engineering 
  • Intermediate French language skills are essential 
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry in open pit operations 
  • Experience in Open Pit optimizations, pit designing and production scheduling. 
  • Experience in the use of mining software packages. Practical knowledge in the use of spreadsheet and database software packages 
The position is offered on a 6/3 week rotation, commuting business class from your point of hire. The role will initially be based in the country’s largest city and as the project progresses the positions will be based on site.
