Process Engineer - Chemical / Minerals

Imerys is the global leader in minerals processing, and our Filtration Minerals Division is looking for a talented Process Engineer who will be responsible for engineering solutions that will improve the efficiency and cost of operations for our North America Filtration Minerals (NAFM) Division processing. Our plant is located in Lompoc, California which is a hidden gem in the Central Coast area with a rural, small town feel and mild weather year-round. Relocation assistance available. You will provide engineering design, planning, cost and benefit analysis, cost tracking and construction/project management. Assist in developing annual budget and project priority plan. Process improvement projects which generate gross margin and/or productivity, reduce operational costs, and increase throughput.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop project scope and perform detailed studies to define project requirements. 
  • Generate engineering opportunities to enhance plant productivity. 
  • Engineering contact with customers, make recommendations relative to handling and storage of company products. 
  • Monitor and manage operational processes and procedures to ensure productivity and cost control in line with facility and division goals. 
  • Ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal laws and regulations. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • BS or MS Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing (or closely related field) 
  • 2-5 years related experience in chemical engineering/mineral processing 
  • Proven aptitude to manage projects in a scientific and logical way 
  • Process Optimization experience 
  • Experiment design experience Interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills, especially cross-culturally 
  • Technical skills including: Engineering, math, and chemistry 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
  • Ability to read, draw and understand blueprints and technical drawings 
  • Thorough knowledge of plant, operational processes and process equipment 
  • Basic computer skills (i.e. Lotus Notes, Excel, Word, IFS, etc.) 
  • Basic Computer Aided Design skills (AutoCAD) Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations in support of engineering principles and theories 
  • Ability to prepare and manage contracts with outside vendors 
  • Working knowledge of Environmental Regulations and how they relate to the operation 
  • Good communication skills including the following: verbal, nonverbal, written and listening Ability to perform basic equipment sizing Ability to work in a team environment 
  • Ability to work in a union environment 
  • Ability to travel for business 
  • Mobility for career development 
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
