Transportation Planner

Description:

• Conduct research and analysis of transportation, freight, economic and demographic data pertaining to domestic and international goods movement and general traffic for client transportation projects. Lead and support studies related to freight economics and economic development, transportation policy, financial analysis, and related areas to develop recommendations for clients regarding multimodal freight strategies, plans and designs. Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of data relating to goods movement and general economic and transportation factors. Conduct regional freight and general transportation demand modeling. Conduct freight system analysis, including freight operations and logistics. Perform rail yard planning and design. Conduct corridor studies, local freight and general traffic simulation and analysis. Prepare reports, presentations, client proposals and project documentation. Assist in project management and administration.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in civil engineering or transportation planning engineering, followed by min. 2 years’ experience in the job offered or 2 years of transportation engineering and planning research experience including freight system analysis and corridor studies, and requiring application of quantitative socioeconomic analysis, system simulation and modeling, statistics and numerical computation, and utilizing GIS, ITS technology, and advanced macro- and microscopic modeling software. Research experience can be paid or unpaid and gained during post-magisterial academic studies.
