Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

To support the growth of Canadian Natural's Horizon Oil Sands, this position may be assigned or require business travel to various contractor workplaces during project phases for extended periods. Domestic locations may include Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver, British Columbia.  International locations may include Europe, Asia and the United States.



THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our Horizon Oil Sands operation is expanding with project spending for 2012 forecasted at approximately $2 Billion with similar spending projected each year for the next 5 years.
The Quantity Surveyor is an integral part of growth strategy and you will have the opportunity to:
• Verify and Record all quantities completed in the field for each type of contract (lump sum, unit price and cost reimbursable) for the entire team
• Assist in Bid Evaluations and Final Account Cost calculations on Contracts as required
• Validate takeoffs, measure, and check installed quantities to high standards in a timely manner for:
o Progress Measurement
o Variations and Changes
o Statistics
o Taxation
o Valuation

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
Maximize your industrial quantity surveyor experience within oil and gas coupled with your analytical and interpersonal skills to:
• Review estimates to an appropriate level of detail to support the review of contractor claims and change order requests. Ensuring all contractor work is in accordance with CNRL Standards and Procedures
• Review and verify total installed quantities for all disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation through regular review of contractor work
• Collect and assemble benchmarking data
• Validation of installed items for Unit Rate and lump sum contract progress payments
• Assist Contract Administrators in measurements for bills of quantities and also assist in tender or bid evaluations
• Collaborate with contract administrators on bids, claims and final accounts etc

Apply your skills to project opportunities in the following areas:
• Extraction Plant
• Froth Treatment Plant
• Tailings Transfer Treatment Plant
• Ore Preparation /Hydrotransport Plants
• Coker Expansion Projects

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 5+ years of related industry experience with Quantity Surveyor Diploma or relevant degree and exposure to estimating software
• Familiarity with working in an Oil and Gas or heavy industry environment
