About the Job
Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist – Fort McMurray
Our client, an oilfield service and supply company, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join their Fort McMurray team on a permanent basis. This safety position is responsible for leading, mentoring, and performing day-to-day Health and Safety Programs and ensures they are properly executed.
Responsibilities Include:
- Lead, guide and mentor employees on company and industry specific safety policies and procedures
- Work with Management, Safety Specialist and Client safety reps
- Monitor compliance with the company Safety Management System, clients’ safety processes as well as provincially legislated safety regulations
- Conduct safety performance reviews and Safety Management System Attests
- Perform Safety Orientations or Training
- Communicate to EHS Manager Non-compliance or inefficiencies in the safe work procedures
- Coordinate health and safety audits and inspections
- Develop and over-see safety and emergency response training
- Develop safe work practices and industrial programs
- Review “root cause” analysis of reported incidents, such as: near misses, personal injury, JSO, or vehicle accidents
- Respond to injuries and provide first aid and/or patient packaging to medical center for further evaluation
- Effectively communicate EHS procedures and policies to all employees and management
- Review and Audit the EHS program, identify gaps, develop, and implement corrective action
- Proficient in using advanced MS Office Software features to effectively execute work tasks
- Required to carry a company-provided cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours
Qualifications Include:
- 3-5 years experience
- College diploma is preferred
- Working towards certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation
- Experience in mining, construction or field operations, or maintenance
- Three or more years of proven experience in leading and mentoring
- Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated computer competency with Microsoft Office applications is an asset
- Ability to work with a team, focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules
- Demonstrate behavior with company Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program
- Capable of adjusting work tasks according to areas that need immediate attention i.e., non-compliance, gaps, and/or audit findings
- Experience in managing inspection requirements with Emergency Response Equipment
- Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, often under short or changing deadlines, in a diverse and fast paced environment
- Take after hours phone calls as needed
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with regulatory agencies and peers with self-confidence, poise, and professionalism
- Must be CPR and First Aid certified, and have knowledge of emergency rescue procedures
