As part of the SNC-Lavalin group of companies, SNC-Lavalin T & D designs, develops, and delivers engineering, including system planning and studies, procurement, and construction solutions for high voltage power transmission line and substation projects from our Canadian, United States and International office locations.
SNC-Lavalin T & D has an exciting full time career opportunity for a Metallurgical / Material Engineer. Based out of our Calgary office, our Metallurgical / Material Engineer is responsible for witnessing the tests at the manufacturers’ facilities, along with the review and interpretation of the test results to ensure the material meets the requirements of T&D projects. This position will report to the Manager, Lines Engineer.
Additional accountabilities for the Metallurgical / Material Engineer include:
- Reviewing material reports (fabricated steel, fasteners, welded material, galvanized material, etc)
- Witness the testing of material (dimensional, mechanical and chemical testing)
- Interpreting results based on international standards and specifications
- Coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams for various projects
Qualifications for the positions include:
- B.Sc. in Materials and Metallurgy Engineering
- 5 to 6 years of total experience with at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Preferably Professional Engineer with APEGGA or PEO
- Experience in reviewing test results based on various international standards
- Knowledge of welding processes and welding procedures
- Experience in reviewing and interpreting welding quality for finished goods
- Possessed good communication skills and able to work alone or within a small team
- Ability to travel to test sites, laboratories and manufacturing plants (10-20%)
