Resource Geologist

Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo LLC is recruiting for a Resource Geologist to work at the remote Pogo Mine located near Fairbanks, Alaska. The Pogo Mine is an exciting project operating in America’s last frontier with challenging and unique opportunities for career development.
 
Position reports to the Technical Services Superintendent and participates in activities related to the operation of a fully mechanized underground drift and fill gold mine. Works closely with the exploration group and mine engineering to facilitate optimal underground production and mine expansion. 
 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage and maintain mineral resource block models
  • Manage and validate geologic database
  • Perform geostatistical analysis on drill hole data
  • Prepare yearly reserve and resource document in compliance with Nl 43-101 reporting guidelines
  • Interpret drill hole data for incorporation into resource estimates
  • Update vein models with information from recent drilling and mining activities
  • Oversee underground geologic mapping and face markup activities
  • Identify near-mine resource expansion opportunities
  • Assess the potential of satellite deposits
Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology
  • Minimum 4 years experience in resource modeling preferably with exposure to structurally controlled vein systems
  • Highly proficient in the use of standard geologic modeling software (Gemcom, Vulcan, Datamine, or Minesight)
  • Strong MS office software skills
  • Excellent data management skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Good knowledge of mine safety practices
  • Highly motivated and resourceful
  • Must pass a post offer physical, drug test and background check (including an ATFE background check)
Camp Job
  • Work rotation - 4 days on the job followed by 3 days off.
  • Requires staying at the company provided camp during the work rotation.  Camp facilities – dining service, game room, exercise & weight room, and a sauna.  Each dorm room has phone, internet & cable tv service. Room & board are company provided.
  • The company provides bus service to and from Fairbanks, Alaska.
