Senior Metallurgical Technician

We are seeking a Senior Metallurgical Technician with a wealth of experience gained in the metallurgical field to train and mentor a team of metallurgical technicians.

Reporting to the Supervisor Metallurgical Laboratory, key responsibilities include:
  • Coaching and training metallurgical technicians
  • Ensure samples are processes as per the metallurgical procedures while minimizing any errors or sample contamination
  • Operate laboratory equipment including crushers, screens, rotary dividers, drying ovens, testing furnaces, forklifts, pilot plants, drop towers, pilot classifiers, jigs, Davis tubes and drum tipper
  • Liaising with other teams in regards to processing issues and metallurgical testing where required
  • Ensure metallurgical costs are managed and controlled daily to ensure compliance with annual forecasts/budgets
Successful candidates will possess the following:
  • Qualifications in Laboratory Practices/Metallurgy or a similar field;
  • Strong experience gained in metallurgical laboratory, ideally within iron ore or allied minerals industry with experience writing laboratory procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with training and coaching metallurgical technicians in laboratory practices
  • A high level of commitment to safety and teamwork;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Current "C" Class WA driver's license.
Your expertise in screens, rotary dividers, riffle splitters, drying overs, crushers and knowledge of other lab scale testwork equipment are essential for this role.
