Description

  • FLSmidth Inc. in Bethlehem, PA, has a position opening for a Specialist, Supplier Quality and Technical Service in its QA/QC Department.

Brief Description

  • The primary role of this position to assure the quality of FLS ’ cast, forged, and fabricated products, supplied or manufactured internally or externally, through the facilitation of cross-functional staff in the qualification and development of new suppliers, refinement of suppliers’ existing processes, and troubleshooting of manufacturing problems.

Detailed Description

  • Review suppliers’ quality plans and manufacturing procedures to ensure that resulting product will comply with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct supplier assessments on new and existing suppliers to ensure that suppliers possess the resources to meet FLS’s  requirements.
  •  Make decisions on supplier’s approval status within FLS based on various operational data sets and supplier assessments.
  • Assist Engineering in the development of technical dispositions for non-conforming product.  This may include fitness for purpose evaluations as well as formulation of appropriate corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Develop, assist in the development, and/or refine technical documents in support of FLS ’ quality management system.
  • Perform vendor surveillance activities and, when necessary, serve as consultant/supervisor for remedial actions carried out in the field or at supplier facilities.
  • Conducts manufacturability studies on new and existing product designs for the purpose of optimizing quality, cost, and delivery of finished product.

Job Requirements

  • The incumbent must possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience in foundry and/or associated manufacturing processes as they pertain to large castings, forgings, and welded fabrications.
  • This incumbent must possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of manufacturing standards and construction codes related to FLS business such as ASTM, ASME, AWS, and ISO.
  • The incumbent must possess strong communication skills, technical writing and the ability to facilitate cross-functional staff and teams to accomplish objectives.
  • The incumbent must possess self-motivation to handle unforeseen challenges, the ability to multi-task, connect related ideas, and the flexibility to work in a highly matrixed organization.
  • The incumbent will ideally possess a bachelor’s degree in a related science/engineering discipline, such as metallurgy or mechanical engineering.
