Health and Safety Officer

A fast-growing Mining Company would like to recruit a Health and Safety officer for a new mine in the Delmas Area in Mpumalanga.

Minimum Requirements

The Successful Incumbent will meet the following minimum requirements:

• Grade 12
• National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent
• 2 - 5 years experience in the mining industry
• Thorough knowledge of the OHS Act, COID Act, Environmental Conservation Act
• Working knowledge of safety systems
• SAMTRAC, Hazard identification, Legal compliance assessments and other NOSA training would be beneficial.

Job Specification

The main duties and responsibilities of the successful incumbent will be:

• Inspecting workplace to investigate accidents, causes of ill-health and complaints
• Inspecting workplace to enforce safety laws
• Examine ways to improve health and safety standards
• Liaise with managers and employees to provide a safe working environment
• Develop health and safety programmes and strategies
• Identify safety training needs, organise and co-ordinate safety training course.
• Safety induction
• Co-ordinate monthly safety meetings
• Assist in appointment of safety representatives
• Liaise with site contractors to ensure their compliance with Company safety regulations
• Identify unsafe acts, conditions and hazards, investigate root causes and identify corrective and preventative actions
• Assist with the formulation of emergency/contingency plans
• Review and update Emergency Procedures as and when necessary.
