Mining Maintenance Engineer (EE)

To carry the 2.13.1 legal appointment as per the Mining Health & Safety Act and carry the responsibility for maintenance and maintenance planning.

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. GCC - Government Certificate of Competence for Mines, Mechanical. 
• Minimum 5 years related experience in Engineering, with multiple operational functions, including Maintenance / Engineering AND Electrical Engineering.

Job Specification

• Reports to: Mine Manager
• Based in: Thabazimbi, Limpopo

Purpose of the Role: 

• To carry the 2.13.1 legal appointment as per the Mining Health & Safety Act and carry the responsibility for maintenance and maintenance planning.

Scope of job:

• Safety - Managing Employee and contractor safety, manage COP's
• Budget - Control over maintenance budgets.
• Maintenance - Part take in the maintenance planning and execution
• Plant availability - Ensure plant availability is optimized and improved daily.
• Project management- Manage projects on the mine that is assigned to you.
• Procurement - Quotes and purchasing of spares through Admin department.
• The incumbent will be responsible for 14 subordinates.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Ensure health and safety functions required of the employer are carried out in terms of Regulation 2.13.1 of MHSA.
• Including all applicable mandatory Code of Practices, risk assessment programmes, occupational hygiene programmes and any other programmes required to ensure effective health and safety management for the operations.
• Ensure that all statutory requirements are met in terms of the proper operation, running and maintenance of machinery at the mine and  as required under the MHSA, Act.
• Set up of planned maintenance schedules, for plants.
• Ensure record up to date keeping of maintenance.
• Define major investment opportunities to improve plant availability.
• Co-ordinate the requirements for the annual shutdown in conjunction with the Production Manager.
• Ensure on the job coaching and mentoring.
• Identify appropriate training needs.
• Ensure sub contractors comply with standards with regards to maintenance of equipment.
• Comply with requirements as per 2.13.1 appointment and geographical areas of responsibility.

• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• GCC - Government Certificate of Competence for Mines, Mechanical.
• Minimum 5 years related experience in Engineering, with multiple operational functions, including Maintenance / Engineering AND Electrical Engineering.
• Sound Knowledge of maintenance environment and demands placed on an Engineer with regards to continuous, high volume process.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
