Head of Department Mod Squad

FIFO 4/2weeks Melanesian 

Our client is completing with their joint-venture partner a massive Nickel ore body and Processing Plant expected to go in production by early 2013. They are now seeking the services of a Head of Department Mod Squad to provide construction support to the Commissioning team including modifications, repairs, design changes and reconstruction works after our client has taken possession of the facilities. The extent and volume of support works required during commissioning may vary and is therefore difficult to estimate. The jobholder should therefore have the experience and ability to draw up and provide a flexible support plan that can evolve in response to needs. 

Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

During the commissioning phase: As the Head of Department Mod Squad representing our client in following and monitoring the construction and commissioning stages to assure that the plant meets our client needs; Work in collaboration with the commissioning team to assure a smooth ramp-up;

After our client has taken possession of the facilities: The jobholder is responsible for managing and implementing all aspects of the support plan including labour ("Mod Squad"), supervision and any other support and services required; He/she is therefore responsible for developing and establishing safety management plans, the employment plan, strategies and plans for subcontractors, budget and cost monitoring and the quality assurance plan;

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess the following:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent plus 10-15 years experience in the construction of large scale industrial facilities; this experience should demonstrate an ability to build, lead and work as part of a team;
  • Have the ability to process and organize information, and to write high quality reports, and communicate and negotiate proficiently with all stake holders;
  • Have an excellent command of all the phases, disciplines and standards involved in a construction project including the principles of business and management
  • Mastery of the French language will be an advantage
